Build your test plan around customer journeys

Choose checks that explain whether a release is ready for the people who will use it.

Start with the consequence of failure

Identify the workflows that affect access, money, sensitive data, or an essential business operation. Give those journeys explicit acceptance criteria and repeatable checks.

Use automation where repetition helps

Stable, repeated workflows are useful candidates for automation. Keep checks readable and focused on behavior so failures can be understood quickly.

Combine those checks with exploratory testing for new interactions, usability, and unexpected combinations of input.

Record what was tested

A release report should state the environment, browsers, integrations, and scenarios covered. It should also identify important limitations so the release decision is informed.

Treat feedback from production as input to the next test plan. Add checks for the regressions that matter rather than maximizing test counts.
